Heat, humidity and sunscreen are hard on eyewear. A few small habits keep a frame looking new for years, even through a Malaysian monsoon season.
Rinse before you wipe
Dust and salt behave like fine sandpaper on a lens. Rinse under lukewarm tap water first, add a drop of mild dish soap if the lens is greasy, rinse again and dry with the microfibre cloth. Skip the T-shirt, the paper tissue and the alcohol wipe.
Keep acetate out of the heat
A parked car in the afternoon sun can get hot enough to soften acetate and loosen hinges. Keep frames like RINDE in their case, and keep the case in your bag rather than on the dashboard.
Watch the sunscreen and perfume
Sunscreen, insect repellent and perfume contain solvents that can cloud clear and translucent acetate over time. Put your frame on after your skincare has dried. Crystal frames like GLAS show this first, so give them a gentle wash once a week.
Let the humidity out
After a rainy walk or a sticky day, leave the case open for an hour so trapped moisture can escape before you close it again. It keeps the hinges, the lining and the cloth fresh.
Fold the left arm first
Folding left, then right, keeps the temples sitting the way they were set. Always take your glasses off with both hands so you never pull the frame out of line.
Small adjustments, early
If a frame starts to slip or sit unevenly, any optician can warm and reshape acetate temples or bend metal nose pads by hand. A two-minute tweak now saves a hinge later.
