Single-lens shields started out in sport, but they work in the city when you style them with intent. Here are a few rules of thumb from our own wardrobe.
Keep everything else simple
A shield is a statement on its own. Pair it with plain, dark layers: a long coat, a black knit, straight trousers, clean shoes. Busy prints and loud logos compete with the single line across your face.
Matte or polished
SCHILD is matte black and reads quiet, almost architectural. It disappears into a dark outfit and lets the shape do the work. VISIER adds a polished steel brow bar that catches the light, so it sits well next to silver jewellery, a metal watch or a zip jacket.
Mind the fit
A shield should sit close to the face without touching your lashes or cheeks. If it rests on your cheeks when you smile, it is sitting too low. Both of our shields are wide fits, so they suit medium to broad faces best.
Hair and hats
Shields look strongest with hair pulled back or cropped short, so the wrap line stays clean. With a cap, choose a flat brim and let the shield sit just underneath it rather than on top.
Know when to switch
For long stretches of reading screens or menus, a two-lens frame with a proper bridge, like KANTE, is more comfortable. Keep the shield for walking, cycling and the moments you actually want to be seen.
Our shield lenses are Category 3. Like all tinted sunglasses, they are not suitable for driving at night or in low light.
